Cat's Eye Nebula (NGC 6543) lithograph and classroom activity |
 | This Hubble Space Telescope image reveals new details of the Cat’s Eye Nebula, one of the most complex planetary nebula ever seen. A planetary nebula is the glowing gas ejected by a star similar in mass to our Sun, during its final stages of evolution. The educational activity, In Search of…the Complex Structures of Planetary Nebulae, uses the Lithograph as the initial source of information to engage students in a Level One Inquiry activity. Students use the images and text to generate questions about the planetary nebula shown on the front of the lithograph, conduct research to answer their questions, and compare the complex structures of planetary nebulae. This curriculum support tool is designed to be used as an introductory activity in a unit that has a scientific inquiry and/or a stellar evolution theme. |
