Search Options

We have provided a variety of different ways to search this site to help you locate resources that will meet your specific needs.

  1. Grade/Subject Search:

The Grade/Subject Search allows you to narrow a keyword search according to your grade level and subject area. Simply select your grade level and subject area, and enter a keyword or phrase. You can also select the grade level and subject only, without selecting a keyword. This will give you a general list of resources for that grade level and subject. This is the dominant kind of search you will find in many search engines like Altavista, Excite, etc.

In addition, to do a quick search by keyword, you can use the search box available in the upper left-hand corner of every page. This performs the same search as from the Grade/Subject page, with the defaults of 'All Grades' and 'All Subjects'.

  2. Custom Search:

If you want even more control over your search, try out the Custom Search. This search page allows you to select individual grades, subjects, and other detailed information like format, language, audience types, etc, allowing you to narrow your search parameters. This method provides the most detailed way of searching.

  3. Topic Search:

In the cases where you may not have an exact idea of what you're looking for, Topic Search may be of more interest. Given a grade level and subject, a broad list of topic categories is generated for you. Clicking on a topic category will give you a list of matching topics and additional topic categories. Selecting a topic will give you a list of resources that fall within that topic. The topic search is similar to the directory tree approach used by sites like Yahoo. These types of searches take you from general topics to more specific concepts.
